Sound to Sea Day Camp Program

Program Description
After a week of summer laziness, the lamentations begin, “There’s nothing to do! I’m bored,” your child moans. It doesn’t help to remind them that a few short weeks ago, they were begging to get out of school. So, let Summer Sound to Sea Environmental Day Camp pull your kids out of the summer vacation doldrums. Trinity Center of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina offers half-week and full-week summer camp programs to rising 1st through 6th graders. Each session allows kids the opportunity to learn about the habitats on Bogue Banks and join in games, crafts and activities with ecological themes.

Have you tired of answering questions like “Mom, Dad! Why is the ocean salty? Why is the sky blue? What kind of frog is this one I have in my pocket?” Let the Sound to Sea Instructors do it for you from 9am to 4 pm every day for a week. Your child will learn an amazing amount of information without realizing there is anything more to it than having fun.

All of our sessions accommodate a maximum of 36 youth who are divided into 3 groups of 12 students (based on age). An experienced Sound to Sea Instructor leads each small group. Our Sound to Sea Staff includes qualified teaching personnel with college degrees in related fields such as biology, chemistry, marine science and botany.

This summer, youth will explore the habitats on Trinity Center’s 62-acre property. They use dip nets in the sound and pond to find out more about the biology of the various creatures that creep, swim and crawl around on a barrier island. The students then have the opportunity for a closer look, as we put some of the marine organisms we find in our Nature Center’s five salt and fresh water aquariums. The campers also have the chance to explore the maritime forest and learn about the animals that live among the cedars, live oaks, pines and vines. In the afternoon, students use items they have collected on the trails to create all kinds of art and music. And last, no beach camp would be complete without some time on the sand. So each camp day finishes with some time on the beach to rest and think about the day’s activities.
